Waves & Waves is the moniker for Los Angeles based musician and producer Matthew Louis. In 2012 he released his debut album, Oceans, which was described as a truly numbing experience, an album achieving a level of transcendental beauty. With a love for ambient music and film music, the debut of Waves & Waves was the perfect start for an artist who aims to transfix an audience, and provide a backdrop and soundtrack for life. After its release, Matthew decided to work on providing a similar experience of music that transports and inspires the listener. But this time with music designed to be experienced in public with groups of people that pushes listeners to get lost in it and dance with reckless abandon. While 2012's Oceans is more of a private and internal beauty, his newer sound is public and populist, anthemic electro-pop.

Waves & Waves’  latest collaboration with Los Angeles based drummer Jake Reed is creating pop music that makes you move. It is infectious, ceremonious and bubbles over with catchy synth hooks. A new album slated for an early 2015 release is synth driven electronic pop music over organic acoustic drumbeats. Its drum sound and layered synths have a timeless quality, merging the best of modern production with the sensibilities of classic electro-pop sounds. 

After spending 2013 exploring new sounds and creating rough bedroom demos, Matthew called on one of LA's best session drummers to breath life into it. Jake Reed is a seasoned jazz and rock drummer, and was a childhood friend and early bandmate of Matthew in their hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. Well over a decade after high school battle of the bands performances and empty VFW hall shows, Matthew and Jake both found themselves living and working as musicians in Los Angeles. Jake came to perform while studying with USC's Peter Erskine, and Matthew was fulfilling a dream of composing and producing music for film.

In January of 2014, Matthew and Jake went into Hollywood's famed EastWest Studios’ Studio C  to work on new music. In the 60's, Studio C was where iconic hits like the Mama's and the Papa's California Dreaming, and the seminal Beach Boys album Pet Sounds were recorded. Recording in this room with vintage microphones kept the drum sound grounded and full of real analog warmth. The drums are alive and brimming with nuance and character. 

The rest of 2014 was spent building out and rehearsing the live show, complete with a full-synchronized light show. When the lights swell with the music, and colors change with chords, the personal walls come down and the audience gets lost in music and dance. Synesthesia is the involuntary experience of one sense when another sense is stimulated. Color-Sound Synesthesia gives the experience of colors when sounds are heard. The Waves & Waves performance lets the audience hear and see the music.
